Get to Know Lara-Jo
Hi! Thanks for stopping by.

My name's Lara and I'm a thirty-something, Aberdeen gal. I have a kid, a couple of cats I got when I was too young and a husband I got when I was even younger.

I am a writer (read the blog here), an amateur dramatics performer, a creative, a story-teller, a hypnobirthing teacher, a professional and a circle facilitator.

At sixteen, I saw my mum give birth to my sister in the Fraserburgh midwifery led unit. There was zero intervention and a little gas and air and I knew I had witnessed as close to magic as real life can get. But there was no magic wand, magic powder or spell. Just a woman trusting her body and taking the space and time she needed.
Fast forward almost 20 years, after an early miscarriage I found myself pregnant amid a global pandemic. My second pregnancy was everything I wanted pregnancy to be. Empowering and enjoyable. I started a hypnobirthing course from around 25 weeks and planned my homebirth.
But at 42 weeks and 4 days pregnant I birthed my son via Caesarean Section and once again I was witness to the powerful and life changing experience of giving birth. It changed everything I thought I knew about birth and opened my eyes to the challenges and rewards that parents can face when welcoming a new member of the family into the world.
I credit hypnobirthing for giving me the knowledge and power to strive for a positive birth experience. It gave me the strength to make the best choices for the wellbeing of myself and my baby and I went into parenthood feeling ready to take on the greatest challenge of all – raising a kid.
I believe that we should want more from birth than “a healthy baby”. Your experiences matter. Growing a baby and birthing it is without doubt the biggest life event a person will go through and it deserves your investment. I can imagine no other life event that you wouldn’t prepare for.

My aim is to empower parents-to-be throughout labour and pregnancy to positively impact their parenting journey. And with that, I believe we will positively impact the first moments, days and weeks of newborn life. Is there anything more brilliant?

I hope that's given you enough about me but I'm happy to have a chat if there's anything else you want to know. I would love to get to know you too.
